File bugreport.debian of Package libegbb3
egbbdll for Debian ------------------ I packaged the lib because it was just neccessary for me and some others. I keep the package private so the debian distribution stays out of license trouble. See the toga2 bug report: Subject: Bug#456533: toga2: egbb tablebases support From: oliver <ok@xynyx.de> Package: toga2 Version: 1.3.4-1 Severity: wishlist toga2 has no egbb tablebases support, because of missing library. This library is publically availabe and I would decide to package it if I can clear my legal license questions. Subject: Bug#456533: Egbbprobe in toga 2 From: oliver <ok@xynyx.de> To: Michel Van den Bergh <michel.vandenbergh@uhasselt.be> Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2007 14:59:23 +0100 Am Sonntag, 9. I just wanted to say > that the source code for egbb is on the website > http://dshawul.googlepages.com/home. I have been using it privately, but now I know somebody else is using it also. So I will try to package it for debian. It will be another package and a library (I haven`t done this before), so please be patient. I have also filed a bug in the debian, that I will close if I will commit a egbb package soon (ITP). You can subscribe to informations to this bug via the debian qa system at: http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/toga2.html > Unfortunately no explicit license statement. Perhaps you could ask the > author. I have asked Daniel to clear the license questions that I have, see below. > In my experience the bitbases are really useful. Thats true Thanks for the request, Oliver My package site is: http://oko00.hostsharing.net/debian/ ################### Mail to Daniel follows here: ################### Dear Daniel, I am the debian packager of toga in debian GNU/Linux, a free Linux distribution. We care a lot to keep the legal details of our distribution clear of trouble. As I understand it, you are sharing the source code of your endgame tablebaseevaluation with the community of chess programmers. I would like to package the dlls for our distribution, because I have been asked for it by others and am privately enjoing to play with endgame tablebases. But I must be safe on the legal details for it. One possibility would be to distribute it under the GNU Public License. The reason for this is best described by Tord (Developer of glaurung): http://www.glaurungchess.com/faq.html Position 3,4,5 I can also package it, If you decide to keep the License in another way, but I would have to know how you want it to be kept. Thanks for your good work, Oliver -- Oliver Korff <ok@xynyx.de> Sat, 04 Apr 2009 21:47:40 +0200
